His life his work

Are things going to change ?

Chapter 6

Are things going to change ?

Ludwig II on 1867, photography by Joseph Albert.

 This 21th century which has just begun does will see finally the historic rehabilitation of the king of Bavaria? The specialists hope for it strongly because the convincing elements are legion today. It’s high time to put an end to a false and harmful legend. It likes only the public to make the first step in the direction of real Ludwig by reading a serious literature which has nothing to do with the gossip column, widely broadcasted in the big bookshops and by the media.

Ludwig II has more that widely deserved to be finally recognized and included in its just value. There is entitled Charles Baudelaire’s poem “The Beauty”, which was not certainly written for Ludwig, but whose contents seem to constitute an ideal and particularly striking mirror to seize the essence of the fact that was able to be at the same time the personality of the king of Bavaria and its quest of the Absolute:

Je trône dans l’azur comme un sphinx incompris;

J’unis un coeur de neige à la blancheur des cygnes;

Consumeront leurs jours en d’austères études;
